Something strange, something eloquent, refreshing, rhythmical and blissful. Accomplished originals band Strange Currencies present to you: Midlander Derby/Nottingham hybrid of rock, funk, blues and beyond. Sounds like…Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pearl Jam, progressive REM.
‘The incredibly creative and original STRANGE CURRENCIES will also be taking to the stage; prepare for PP Johnson’s resounding vocals and Claudine West’s extraordinary musical skills on the guitar, and mandolin, and basically any instrument! The dynamic of the two being ex-Rock band members but making beautiful Folk music together is delicious, strange, but intriguing. In a few words, it’s like Foo Fighters gone Peter Gabriel!’ Nusic 2017

The History: (Formed in April 2016.) Two ex-rock band members; One an insanely talented multi-instrumentalist Claudine West (The Idolins, Subway Circus) and the other a stunningly powerful vocalist. PP Johnson (No Empire, Subway Circus)
They began performing at local open mic nights to promote their music and have worked with local promoters such as ‘Roots Acoustic’ ‘Bad Time For Bonzo’ and ‘I’m Not From London.’
Band influences: The Who, The Doors, Smashing Pumpkins, Stevie Wonder, Prince, Pink Floyd, Pearl Jam, Bobby Womack, Foo Fighters, Rage Against The Machine, Tori Amos, Sonic Youth, Black Sabbath, Rammstein, Jose Gonzalez, Suzanne Vega and R.E.M. (with the band name taken from the R.E.M. song)
They went on to complete a 27 acoustic local tour, almost split up. Then found an appreciative audience at aptly named, The Rescue Rooms, Nottingham. Which reinvigorated their passion to continue. In 2017 they added additional members creating their rock sound with optional acoustic sets.
